Village Shop Questionnaire Results
April 21, 2009 – 8:38 pmA huge thankyou to everyone who responded. To date we have had 140 replies, out of the 460 we delivered. This is a very high response rate, much greater than usually found in response to surveys. There was quite a low response from our neighbouring villages of Knapwell, Conington & Boxworth , which means the percentage received back from Elsworth is in fact much higher.
Thankyou. It really shows how much support there is for a new village shop.
Results from the questionnaire.
A huge proportion of people thought that a new shop should be sited in a different location. The steering group have investigated the possibilities of other sites, but most would require substantial capital investment. The Poacher as a potential site just did not work financially, & there was support voiced for keeping it as a pub if at all possible. So our plans are focused on the existing site, with modifications & updating.

Not everyone filled in this section. It is difficult to predict, until you know what products are going to be sold, hence the figures don’t add up to 100%.
Offers of help:-
This was the most encouraging section. We have had a tremendous number of volunteers, offering help in all areas. Don’t worry we will be contacting you, whether it’s to do with fundraising, decorating, staffing the shop, baking the cakes or helping with publicity.
THANKYOU very much for being involved. Without your help the shop would not be a possibility.
We will use all this information in the strategy for setting up your new village shop.

One Response to “Village Shop Questionnaire Results”
Hi I have just moved to the area and after ending up in willingham looking for a village shop that was open on a sunday (fenstanton shop was closed), I am delighted to see you are opening a shop in Elsworth. May I suggest that a butchers be included as good meat and veg is increasingly hard to find. There is a good butcher in Eaton Socan and the shop in Brampton sells pies and weekly ‘meat packs’ which are very reasonable and sucessful.Lunch packs and ready made sandwiches for busy workers may be a good idea too. Also if volenteers are making produce such as jam and bread, are you allowed to sell it? Thinking health and safety / food hygeine laws.
One last personal thing; I would love to see traditional 10p bags of sweets make a come back… may need to be 30p now!
